Reproductive Liberty
The ability to control your own body is one of our most basic and cherished freedoms. This freedom underlies the right to reproductive autonomy which the adoption of Article 22 has enshrined in the Vermont Constitution. The amendment is neither for nor against abortion; it is about an individual’s right to control their own body. It is about recognizing that the choice about abortion—and other aspects of reproduction—is in the hands of the individual, and not the government. I worked for the passage of this protection when it was Proposal 5 in the Legislature, and I supported the adoption of Article 22, which I am proud to say received majority support in every town across the state.
