Housing

With Upper Valley vacancy rates below 1% we need to continue investing in creatively solving our housing crisis. In the last two years, Vermont has invested over $350 M into housing: in new affordable, mixed and middle income housing, in low hanging fruit, like the renovation of blighted, vacant and non-code compliant rental properties, and the development of Accessory Dwelling Units. And, we’ve invested millions into growing a construction workforce. We need to continue to reduce the barriers to housing development in our downtowns and village centers, and incent redevelopment of under used homes and other spaces. With the cost of land, the cost of materials and the limited construction workforce - Vermont and her federal partners, will probably need to provide more tax incentives to promote the housing development we urgently need.
